Raising a family is easier and more fun when you ask for help. Creating a thriving support network takes work. Yet by giving and receiving support, you are a happier and healthier mother, who in turn raises happier and healthier kids–a true win/win!
It’s easy to fall into the “divide and conquer” mode as parents and lose sight of the importance of your relationship. When you and your partner make time for each other without the kids, you send a powerful message to your family that the strength of your relationship is important and that strength takes time and energy. The better your relationship is, the stronger and more successful parents you’ll be!
Whether going out of town on business or pleasure, being away from home can make our kids sad. Here is one way that I connect with them even when I’m gone. I buy a book, write a special note in it, and then I hide it. I leave clues about where it is and they have to find it, nothing fancy, but it’s fun. I love knowing that every time they read that book while I’m gone, they’ll be reminded of my love for them.
When in doubt, laminate it. Not sure what to do with your kids art? I laminate them and hang them with sticky tack each year to decorate for the seasons. Most hobby stores have a laminating machine. It’s fast, easy, & cheap! Our front window looks like a pumpkin patch this morning after I hung all of the pumpkins made by our kids over the years. The kids LOVE to see their old stuff and I marvel at how fast time flies.
Live the life you want your kids to live! If you want your kids to value friends, spend time with yours. If you want your kids to have a loving dynamic partner relationship, go on dates– laugh. If you want your kids to live a happy, healthy, joy-filled life, YOU need to live it first! Live the dream! Show them how to raise a family AND grow personally in the process. Make it a great day!
The most important “news” each morning is sitting around your kitchen table each morning. Try turning off the TV to see if your morning is less stressful. It’s hard to compete with the bells and whistles of a television. When you connect with your kids– really connect in the morning, you feel happier and more fulfilled. Make it a great day!
