Motherhood Isn’t A Race Or Competition

I have JUST two,” said a wonderfully successful mom to me the other day as we were talking about our families at a conference. My response, “never say, JUST when you talk about how many kids you have”, I remember two kids and they were all consuming. Life was crazy. Heck, remember having one and how we were all about meeting the needs of one?” The mom looked at me in awe and smiled. It never occurred to her. Motherhood isn’t a race or a competition to see who has more making one mom better, busier, or more important than the next. It’s an all-consuming way of life that we all signed up for filled with immense amounts of joy, exhaustion, wackiness, tenderness, frustration, uncertainty, and rewards. I asked her again (so she could practice) about her family and she said with confidence and a smile, “I have two kids!” We hugged and went our separate ways.
