Showing Your Compassion And Sadness Is Healthy

by Amy Hilbrich Davis

Be cautious as you share specifics of sadness and tragedy with your kids.  With life, there will be death, yet how your children learn about it should come from someone they love and trust–you, as opposed to a reporter on TV.  Take your kids aside and share your sadness. Be brief and short on explanation.  Say a prayer or honor those who have passed in a way that feels respectful and consistent with your beliefs.
